On the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (Or Triumph of the Cross) we honor the Holy Cross by which Christ redeemed the World. The public veneration of the Cross of Christ originated in the 4th century.
On September 14, 326, St. Helena, the mother of Constantine, discovered the cross while on a pilgrimage in Jerusalem. The Emperor later built the Church of the Holy Sepulcher on the site.
Christians “exalt” (raise on high) the Cross of Christ as the instrument of our salvation, adoration of the Cross is Adoration of Jesus Christ, the God Man, who suffered and died on the cross for our salvation. The cross represents the one sacrifice by which Jesus, obedient even unto death accomplished our salvation. The cross is the symbolic summary of the Passion, Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ our Savior.
The Cross is the most powerful and universal symbol of our faith. It reminds us that Jesus died for our sins and by His Death and Resurrection opened the gates of heaven for you and me.
God Bless,
